I thought Friday the 13th was supposed to be the bad day. Well I think Monday the 13th might be worse. Well, for the Bielke's anyway.
Sunday night Scott was complaining that his jaw/ear/neck hurt on his left side. I figured he had an ear infection, so we planned to go to Urgent Care the next morning. (We both had Monday off to recover from Easter/Owen's pary on Sunday. ) Scott came down when I was eating breakfast on Monday and told me he couldn't move the left side of his face. My mom had this years back, so I suspected the same thing was going on, but I'm no doctor! So we dropped Owen off at daycare and went to Urgent Care. Scott had to have a CT scan and a bunch of blood work done while he was there. They needed to rule out a stroke. The CT came back normal as well as the blood work, so they were about 99.9% sure it's Bell's Palsy. The dr. explained that a virus inflames the 7th nerve that runs on the side of your head (ear/jaw/throat). It causes pain and temporary paralysis of the facial muscles. It's really annoying for Scott. He says it feels like he went to the dentist and they numbed up his whole left side of his face. So for now, he'll drink from a straw and chew small bites of food with the right side of his mouth. He has a follow-up appointment on Thursday to see if there has been any changes to his condition. The virus just needs to run it's course.
Also, when I went to pick up Owen from daycare, one of the girls is holding the door for me and sobbing. Her mom tells me that Ava has something to tell me (oh, great...). She could barely tell me that she slammed Owen's finger in the door. I sort of wanted to pull the, "And why did this happen?"....blah, blah, but I just wanted to get in the house and see how Owen was. I could see him sitting on the bench with tears rolling down his cheeks. It looked pretty terrible. I thought for sure we'd end up going to the ER for a broken finger. Good thing one of the moms is a nurse and she was asking Owen to bend his fingers and he could. They had ice on it when I got there. She said it was looking better, just more swollen. When we got home, Owen and Daddy sat down to watch Rocket (Little Einstein's). Soon he was pat-patting away. He was bending his finger just fine while gripping his fork at supper too. So Scott and I thought he would be fine and we were sparred a trip to the ER!! Whew!
What an emotional day! On top of that, some of you know our very exciting news that we are expecting #2! If not, surprise! We are due early November. Scott and I also spent an hour or so at the doctor for me yesterday (hence the reason we did not want to spent a few more hours there with Owen!). We had an early ultrasound yesterday too in order to verify the due date. They like to do this when a known c-section will be scheduled. They don't want to take the baby too early obviously.
Just one more quick thing. After talking to Scott's sister, we found out that Shelby (niece) fell on a slide, bit threw her lip and chipped her tooth! What an eventful day for the Bielke clan. Before we knew the news about Shelby, Scott had asked how my day was. I said it was good because we got to see that the baby was doing well, but I felt bad for my boys. He said since I had a good day, that we must be having a girl (because the boys weren't having much luck). Well, when we heard the news about Shelby, I told him his theory was shot. He didn't seem to think so. Guess, we'll find out later!
